Enjoying the Process
I’ve recently made a conscious decision to enjoy the process of making my art more, and to be less attached to the outcome. This is really hard for an enneagram 7, because we are always looking ahead at the next big thing we’ll be doing. We’re rarely enjoying the moment we’re in (another reason that forest therapy is so important to me).
We’ve had a barred owl living in our neighborhood and it is often taking up residence in a tree near my house, hooting outside of my bedroom window at night. I am fascinated by this creature. The completely silent way it glides out of the tree gives it a mystical aura.
I have wanted to create something to honor this beautiful being and after scouring the web for a pattern, I finally made my own, piecing together what I liked from a few different patterns that I found.
The process of making this wall hanging was one that I enjoyed possibly more than any other yet. After I dug out all of the yarns & cords that I had in the this color palate, my partner helped me decide on which shades of brown to use where, what color to use for the beak & feet putting my mind at ease as I prepared to begin…
I felt deeply connected to each knot as I worked. I felt I was being “watched” after the eyes were complete and it felt like a sense of safety. To make it even more enjoyable, as the image unfolded in front of me, the colors were more perfect that I could have imagined. It all just looked and felt so ‘meant to be.’
